Welcome to Mini MBA in Marketing Review!
Does receiving marketing training improve your ability to market? Certainly, according to Mark Ritson, marketing professor, Mini MBA inventor, and Marketing Week contributor.
In the 2019 Marketing Week Salary Survey, more than half of the marketers said that they had not pursued any form of academic or professional accreditation in marketing. To be exact, 53.8%.
Despite working as a generalist marketer for eight years, I belonged to the untrained majority up until I completed the Mark Ritson Mini MBA.
I’m not completely sure how that number has changed since then, but I do know that The Mini MBA has grown to be very well-liked.
Therefore, I decided to write the review I would have liked to read before enrolling in and finishing the Mini MBA in Marketing, one of the two MBA online courses that Ritson (in partnership with Marketing Week) provides.

Modules for a mini-MBA in marketing
As soon as you click on each module, the screen shown below appears.
Each module includes a presentation video that lasts between 40 and 1 hour 30 minutes, as well as a required reading (often an academic article), optional readings (often Mark Ritson’s Marketing Week column or a similar column), and additional resources for all you eager beavers out there.
In the first module, Mark describes how the resources function, but as he was doing so, I was also struck by something.
Mark has developed a confrontational, contentious reputation in his columns, at least in my opinion. I anticipated that his approach to teaching and the way the course would proceed would also reflect this.
‘Professor Ritson’ was what I actually found. Someone who cares a lot more than you might imagine. Someone who is aware that not everyone will have the time to read all the resources. And someone who has obviously worked with his team to create a course that scales up or down depending on how much time people can devote to it in addition to their regular job and home routines. If you are able to read everything, by all means, but this is not what is expected. Depending on what you can provide, you can design your own experience.
The course’s opening video and introduction had a thoughtful, practical, and pragmatic tone that persisted the entire time. More often than I had anticipated, I found myself settling into it and experiencing encouragement rather than intense challenge. It was excellent.
The videos themselves have been created to be as entertaining as possible while still conveying the message. I won’t take a snapshot of Professor Ritson without a top, but those who sign up for the course will be in for a treat. Talk about increasing your exposure… Additionally, I thought the production values were incredibly compelling and motivating, especially as we develop TMM+. Any content producer would likely feel the same way.
With the exception of the academic readings, it was helpful that the optional reading was also available as a podcast. Later, more on that.
Who is this Mini MBA in Marketing for?
For me, it’s beneficial for practically any marketer or company owner. I’d say it’s very helpful for those who are conventionally untrained because even after eight years in my industry, I’ve gained a great deal of structure that will carry me through the rest of my career.
